“If you focus, concentrate and control your emotions, it could be helpful in any discipline, whether it be school or baseball, or even volunteering for that matter. As long as you focus, put your mind to it and have that drive for it, things will happen better than how they would have been if you just sat there,” Andrew Chavez (12) said.

“You really only do live once. You might as well live your life to the fullest, especially as a child. And as a teen in high school, live your life to the fullest and dont have any regrets. I like to have fun and not really care about what other people think of me. I think thats definitely a way to go with life, because if you care about what everyone thinks, youre really not going to enjoy it to the fullest,” Natalie Vo (12) said.

“Everything I do, I do it because I really love it. And I really wish other people could also see the joy and sublimity that I find in some disciplines, like math [and] biology. [I want to] help show students who are not as interested in those activities, the power and beauty of sciences,” Sidra Xu (12) said.

“I love to make people laugh or smile or try to brighten up their day, just a little bit. Thats probably one of my favorite things to do. I’ve really enjoyed the brief interactions that Ive had with everyone. I’ve known some of [my classmates] for 13 years now. Its kind of hard to not like them, even a little bit,” Ryan Tobin (12) said.

“[Dance is] a better way to present yourself because youre not really using your voice. Youre using yourself and your movement in connection with the music, and youre moving to that and vibing … Dance is showing a different side of yourself, a more artistic side, so its a more satisfying way to express myself,” Kristin Tong (12) said.

“When I do things, I’m not really thinking about credit in general. Sure, it’s cool to be recognized, but I’m not the type of person who wants to be a celebrity with their name everywhere. I like anonymity. I personally know that I’m important in some way and that’s enough for me,” Angela Cai (12) said.

“Im trying to do the things that others havent been able to do and take advantage of these opportunities. I [hope to] prove that … deviations from the norm arent incorrect and they shouldnt be immediately rejected just because theyre different. One thing you have to know about me is that Ive had so many people whove said I couldnt do it, and here I am … I did the impossible,” Ellis Goldman (12) said.
