Felix Chen (11) is the co-news editor for Harker Aquila and the Winged Post, and this is his third year on staff. Felix hopes to diversify this year's news coverage and work with members of the staff from all grades, contributing to the creation of a tight-knit community with a joy for journalism. “Soccer shapes my personality, not holding back any effort you have. Through club, Ive learned about having self-confidence. Playing amongst people who are UCLA commits — it could be intimidating, but you just need to play to your own strengths. [I’ve also learned how to be] patient and encouraging with those who have never played soccer before,” Lexi Wong (12) said.

“A big challenge that I had to overcome for percussion was becoming less afraid of mistakes. When youre the loudest in the room, every mistake you make is going to be amplified a hundredfold. But in order to play your part, youre going to have to just go for it. That spirit has really developed because of percussion, but has carried over to other areas of my life,” Jacob Huang (12) said.

“In Esperanto, you have the example of a group of people who have an amazing idea and want to share it with the world. Regardless of the obstacles that they face along the way, regardless of the challenges that they encounter, they continue believing in Esperanto’s mission and they continue working towards their goal. I find that really inspiring. Optimism and hope have a lot of power, Rupert Chen (12) said.
