Previewing New York Fashion Week

Fashion expresses many aspects of one’s personality, outlook on life, and preferences. The latest clothing fashions will debut in New York City during New York Fashion Week (NYFW).

NYFW starts tomorrow, Sept. 10 and continues for a week until Sept. 17. In New York City, buyers, fashion journalists and spectators view displayed fashion collections from all over the world in these series of events. It is a part of the “Big 4,” the four major fashion weeks including in Paris, London and Milan and consists of many separate, branded fashion shows, such as Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and independent productions. The main purpose is to show the public what designs are popular and in season.

It requires a ticket to enter. Fashion editors and bloggers or clients of designers are invited. Celebrities go to visit their modeling friends.

Designers of clothing being exhibited in the show can come from companies, such as the BCBGMAXAZRIA Group and Supima brand.

Haris Hosseini (9) discovered NYFW on the show Jimmy Kimmel Live! and expresses his opinion on the event.

“I feel like it’s kind of superficial and materialistic,” Haris said. “But I mean it’s fun, it’s fashion and it’s style. I think it’s kind of cool. ”

Liana Wang (10) has partic
ipated in pageants and runway shows, making many modeling friends through her experiences. Haleigh Hekking, a model for MIMI Tran, is one of them and participates in NYFW.

“There’s a lot negative thoughts about modeling, but I think it’s pretty cool,” Liana said. “I just look at all the Facebook updates. It depends on the designer. Some stuff actually looks pretty decent.”

Some shows occurring tomorrow include clothing designed by Nicholas K, Rebecca Vallance, BCBGMAXAZRIA Group, Erin Fetherston, and Leanne Marshall.

Shannon Hong (12) saw pictures of saw a picture of a picture of a celebrity participating in the show on the Yahoo! website.

“The latest fashion people can go show their designs, which is great,” Shannon said. “They influence the next generation of fashion. I feel like NYFW is really about blowing the top. So seeing how weird or how cool you can get. I think they totally even blow the barriers of acceptable, everything on there is just weird and awesome at the same time. On a social critic side, I feel like this is also necessary for our economy. I think fashion should exist. Fashion’s cool.”

NYFW starts at 9 a.m. with Nicholas K and ends at 8:30 p.m. with Kempner.
