Stress can be reduced by studying effectively for finals. Upper School finals will take place from Jun. 3-5.

With finals approaching quickly, it is important to manage your time well in order to  feel more relaxed before exams. Here are five different ways to help productivity.

  1. Find a suitable location to study

If you are a person who gets distracted easily or is extremely social, you might want to find a study place where you won’t socialize or be tempted to use electronics and other devices.

2. Switch subjects from time to time

Try not to study just one subject for a long period of time. Every hour or so, try to switch to another one. When studying the same subject for a long period of time, it is likely that you will get bored and lose focus. If you study completely different material, it is more likely that you will remain focus and absorb more material.

3. Create a to-do list

Making a checklist or to-do list can be extremely helpful for both organization and stress levels. As you check off what you have done on your list, you can boost your motivation and drive to do more work.

4. Make a “cheat sheet”

Try making a “cheat sheet” containing all the material you have learned for each subject. Instead of wasting time flipping through pages of notes and worksheets it is easier just study off one sheet filled with information. This will also help with organization.

5. Eat healthy

Many people stuff themselves with junk food right before exams as a reward for studying. Truth is, rather than giving yourself a reward, you are hindering your performance. Junk food contains artificial sugar, which gives you energy but leads to a sugar crash about a half an hour later. Eating fruit which contains natural sugars gives you the same amount of energy, but for a more sustainable amount of time. While it is okay to treat yourself while studying, just remember to have it in small quantities.
Whether it’s finding the right place to study, making better food choices, decreasing stress, or being more organized, these study tips have proven to be effective ways to study for final exams.
