Bare Bowls: A satisfyingly refreshing California meal

A new popular option for super foods is the açaí berry (pronounced ah-sah-EE), an ingredient commonly added to in your Starbucks iced tea and energy bars.

The up and coming favorite is the açaí bowl, which is a blended mixture of the tangy berry with other fruits, grain and vegetables, creating a soft refreshing smoothie, a perfect breakfast, post workout stack lunch or healthy dinner.

Located on Emerson, right off of University Avenue in downtown Palo Alto, Bare Bowls prides itself in being “Palo Alto’s first acai bowl and health food eatery” and making hand crafted, natural dishes.

Bare Bowl’s main product is the açaí bowl, consisting of the smoothie base that ranges from a deep purple in their Rincon Bowl to a bright pink in their Sunrise Pitaya Bowl and a healthy looking green in their Omni Green Bowl.

Above the sweet, zesty base, coconut shavings, various nuts and grain and colorful fruits decorate the top. The coconut, granola, fruits and base combine for a gluttony of textures and flavors, its elements neatly arranged to make for a complete sensory experience.

Inside the restaurant, a hipster, all natural vibe encompasses the customer. Shelves of games to play while you wait and couches and repurposed wood tables makes for an enjoyable affair.

Their bowls comes in two sizes: the smaller is perfect for a midday stack, while the large provides a surprisingly full meal. With all of this combined, the açaí bowl and its many configurations is a rare food option for any meal, for varying occasions.

But don’t savor too long; it melts!
