Apple introduced two new additions to the iPhone 6 family, the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, to the public in an Apple keynote event held at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco on Wednesday.

“For iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, we’re introducing an entirely new interaction, and a whole new dimension to the way you experience your iPhone,” Chief Design Officer Jony Ive said in the iPhone 6S promotional video.

Both the iPhone 6S and slightly larger 6S Plus include many new features, such as the 3D Touch, which can sense the amount of pressure applied to the screen, according to Apple.

The product also introduces the Peek and Pop gestures which allows the user to preview content. For example, Peek allows one to preview a website with just a gentle tap on the link, and Pop goes directly to the actual website just by applying a bit more pressure.

The Quick Actions feature also allows the user call a friend or family or send an email directly from the home screen with just a single press on the app.

In addition, the new iSight camera introduces the Live Photos feature, which allows still photos to come to life with a simple tap, as well as an advanced pixel technology and higher resolution videos.

Some students feel that Apple has greatly developed its products and unique functions.

“It’s amazing how even now they can account how much pressure you put into the touch to give you more options, so it’s just really cool how much they’ve advanced,” Pooja Kini (11) said.

Other students believe that Apple’s new ideas are no longer innovative and that customers simply buy products manufactured by Apple due to the brand name.

“I have to say that Apple used to be a great company and they used to have a lot of innovation, but [now] the company is not doing anything,” Sahil Kapur (10) said. “[I think they are] copying Android in every way they can, and people will buy [the iPhone] just because it has an Apple logo on the back.”

Pre-ordering will open on Sept. 12, and the products will be available in stores on Sept. 25.
