On March 16, 25 students and three chaperones from sister school Tamagawa Gakuen made a stop at the Upper School as part of their trip to visit universities across the United States.

At the Upper School, the Tamagawa students attended a college counseling presentation and observed classes including Sculpture, Japanese Language, European History, and Economics. Afterwards, they participated in the Eagle Buddies activity at the Lower School along with the juniors.

According to Global Education Director Jennifer Walrod, this marks the first time that Tamagawa has offered its students such a trip.

“I think it’s been a really, really good opportunity, because a lot of [international] students are interested in high school classes in the United States but don’t actually get a chance to experience it,” she said. “The [Tamagawa] students and chaperones have been giving me feedback about how fun and how interesting [the Upper School] was.”

As one of the student escorts, Antonia Ipser (12) accompanied a group of Tamagawa students to the Sculpture class of Visual Arts teacher Jaap Bongers, and she said that she enjoyed being the go-between because of her ability to speak Japanese.

“I hope that the [Tamagawa students] liked the Upper School and enjoyed their time here,” she said.

Later that day, the Tamagawa students visited Stanford University; also on their trip list are colleges such as Columbia, NYU, Yale, and MIT.
