Nicole Tian, Aquila Co-Editor-in-Chief

Nicole Tian (12) is the co-editor-in-chief of Harker Aquila. This is her fourth year on staff, and she previously served as the opinion editor, co-lifestyle editor and staff reporter. She enjoys writing commentary on issues she finds interesting and growing through interactions with her fellow staff members. In her free time, she loves history research, sketching, pondering the paradox of astronomy and meme templates.

“[Writing is] a lot about being introspective, so speaking about things that maybe you aren’t comfortable with. A lot of it is about race, identity, politics and the intersection of the three … A lot of these issues don’t affect me personally, but it’s still interesting to me, because I just like listening to stories and talking to people,” Catherine Zhao (12) said.

“If you don’t connect with a topic, it’s obviously really going to show, and it just doesn’t make sense, because then I don’t care about what I’m talking about. I talk about things that are really, really personal and important to me that I’ve had experience with, and every time I go out to speak, every round is ten minutes where I can force a room to listen to me…I try to hope that shows through when I perform and bringing reality to the characters I’m portraying, because in the end, everyone’s a real person,” Nikki Solanki (12) said.
