Keller’s Korner – April 20

From the annual musical to Associated Student Body (ASB) speeches to Recreate Reading, this week’s diverse events encompassed all of the student body.

“The large number of kids we have involved in ASB and the elections coming up is a very positive thing for the student body. [Additionally], the spring musical is huge with over 40 members involved,” Butch Keller said. “This has been a big week as far as student excitement.”

Rehearsing since February, the 43 cast members of the musical debuted their first performance of The Drowsy Chaperone on the evening of Wednesday, April 18. This year’s musical is a framed comedy, with the outer narrative occurring in the present day while inner story takes place in the 20s. Shows will continue through Saturday night.

Candidates running for ASB recited their speeches in front of the entire student body excluding the current seniors on Wednesday, April 18. Simar Mangat (11) and Raghav Sehtia (11) are campaigned for president, while Bobby Kahlon (11) and Maverick McNealy (11) ran for vice-president, David Lindars (11) and Vincent Lin (10) for secretary, and Kevin Lin (11) and David Grossman (11) for treasurer. Students voted during lunch on Friday, April 20, and results will be announced at the school meeting on Monday, April 23.

After the speeches, freshmen, sophomores, and juniors retreated to their Recreate Reading groups. Faculty sponsors introduced their chosen books to their student groups, who will read them over the summer and be prepared to discuss the literature next fall.

More events to look forward to next week include the annual Senior Showcase.
