The rise of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) in recent years has been impossible to ignore. Arena attendance continues to surge and nationally televised games repeatedly expand as the 2025 season averaged a 6 percent increase over the record-breaking 2024 season, reaching 1.3 million viewers on ESPN networks. What was once a niche professional league is now part of a much larger conversation about the future of women’s sports.

Sophomores, frosh attend last LIFE sessions of the year

Sophomores and frosh attended their last LIFE sessions of the school year on Jan. 29 in the Auxiliary Gym and Nichols Auditorium. The sophomores’ session focused on preparing for the next year’s college counseling meetings, while frosh learned about staying safe on the Internet.
Sports fans of professional versus college sports vary despite the games being fundamentally the same. College sports tend to have more traditions and rituals, with rivalries and school loyalty playing a key role in the more intense nature of the fans.

Same game, different stakes

Although collegiate teams generally have fewer fans than their professional counterparts, they make up for it through the passion and history evident in storied rivalries and in the strong ties between fans and their schools.
