San Jose City Council officials have called a special meeting scheduled for tomorrow to address a potential loan plan for airport federal employees at the Norman Y. Mineta International Airport who are currently working without pay as a result of the ongoing government shutdown.

The council meeting, which will begin at 2 p.m. tomorrow, will address action plans to provide aid for local federal airport workers, such as a short-term loan program that will allott amounts equal to monthly take-home pay to workers, as proposed in a memo by Mayor Sam Liccardo.

This announcement comes as the nation enters the 25th day of a major government shutdown that has impacted 800,000 federal workers across the country, including Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents, national park rangers and employees of numerous federal departments.

As of the afternoon of Jan. 16, the council approved a plan for a short-term loan program covering the paychecks of some airport federal employees.
