Kinetic Krew rehearses for its performance this Sunday. The all-male dance troupe was formed this year at the upper school.

Kinetic Krew, the upper school’s new all-male dance troupe, will perform for the first time at the 65th Annual Family and Alumni Picnic this Sunday.

Auditions for this dance team were held on Aug. 27 in the dance room. They will be performing at the Family Picnic, the Santana Row Tree Lighting and the Annual Holiday Assembly Tour.

The boys will be performing a dance based off skeletons in honor of the Halloween theme for this year’s picnic.

Kinetic Krew member Alexander Lam (10) reflects on the dance.

“I think it’s a really cool routine because it is Halloween based so it has a spooky theme to it,” Lam says.

The dancers will wear a black zip-up jacket with skeletal design on the front and back, track pants, and converse shoes. When the jacket’s hood is completely zipped up, the audience can see a skull.

“I think the costumes are actually pretty cool, because they have skeletons over the jacket so it creates this effect of a bunch of skeletons performing,” Lam explained.

Also Halloween inspired, the music is fast paced, giving the hip-hop routine a scary touch.

“The music is a remix from a very old song that was used in a mickey mouse cartoon called ‘Spooky Scary Skeleton’,” said Kuehn.

Timothy Wang (9) shows his excitement for his first dance performance of the school year for Kinetic Krew.

“I’m excited that I get to hang out with my friends and perform on stage,” says Wang.

Timothy shares his enthusiasm to perform with an all-boy troupe. He has been part of Harker’s dance program since Kindergarten, and was a part of the middle school’s High Voltage dance team.

“I hope this year is the same as last year, where I had fun while dancing,” Wang says.

Kinetic Krew has had four rehearsals so far in which they have worked hard with their choreographer Jazon Escultura to learn, practice, and perfect their piece for the picnic. Their next performance is on Nov. 17 at the Santana Row Tree Lighting.
