Seeded number 12 in league, the varsity boys basketball team upset the number five seed Pacific Grove team 58-45 on Thursday night. They now look to defeat the number 4 seed Carmel today in the quarterfinals of the CCS playoffs.

Today’s game has a revenge factor for the boys varsity team as well; Carmel beat Harker in the first round of CCS playoffs last year.

Team captain Peter Connors (12) explains that the coaches have been watching filmes of both Carmel’s offense and defense. Because of this, he expects the team to downplay their opponent’s strengths and exploit their faults during practice.

“We’re mainly going to be tailoring a new offense or new defense to their weaknesses,” Peter said. “Knowing what they are good at and trying to neutralize that”.

Peter also mentioned that there were likely some other aspects of the game that the coaches focus on improving during practice such as “patience on offense and shot selection.”

The team will play against Carmel today at Hartnell College-Salinas at 2:45 p.m.. If they win today, the team will either play Half Moon Bay or Palma at home in the semi-finals on Tuesday, February 27.
