Colorful streamers and balloons decorated the gym as the juniors participated in clown-themed activities with their fourth grade Eagle Buddies today.

Donning bright red noses, they watched circus performers and clowns carry out a variety of tricks, such as juggling and hula-hooping. One of the circus performers invited three Eagle Buddies and Maile Chung (11) to spin plates with him on stage.

“It was really invigorating,” Maile said. “It was a lot of fun to be up there. Also, it’s fun to watch the kids’ experience because it looked like they had a lot of fun as well.”

After the show, the juniors and their Eagle Buddies had the opportunity to take part in feather balancing, face painting and scarf juggling, which were all located at different stations around the gym.

“We got to really enjoy this kind of entertainment that’s more naïve to us,” Andrew Gu (11) said. “But being able to relive that innocence [and] enter that childlike state again with our Eagle Buddies, I think that was the most important part.”

Reflecting on the whole experience, mathematics teacher and LIFE director Jane Keller considered the constant engagement between junior and fourth grade Eagle Buddies as the greatest success.

“My biggest worry of the day for Eagle Buddies was that we would run out of activities before the time and we would end up with this awkward downtime,” she said. “Today was great. As a matter of fact, we had one more activity that we didn’t do because everyone was having fun. So, we’ll save it for another day.”

The juniors will meet with their Eagle Buddies once again before the academic year ends.
