107 frosh roleplayed business and networked with upperclassmen at DECA Launch last Friday and Saturday. This year welcomed record attendance for the annual event.
“This is one of the Harker DECA events that attracts the most people,” CEO Sanaa Bhorkar (12) said. “It really boosts our membership and gets us all ready for the DECA year.”
The event finale is the Innovation Challenge, where groups pitch their entrepreneurial ideas to judges, parents and other groups. Insoles, a shoe insert designed to reduce foot odor, won “Best Overall.” Insoles presenter Ishaan Dhillon-Patel (9), reflected on his group’s approach and execution.
“One challenge we’ve faced is trying to come up with a unique product on the spot because a lot of what we’re trying to innovate has already been created,” Ishaan said. “The more we talked, the better we were able to get at handling difficult questions about our products, like what makes us unique and what makes us stronger compared to our competitors.”
As the Launch drew to a close, Chapter Advisor Juston Glass praised attendees for their hard work and dedication over two days and the DECA officers for their organization of the event.
“I can’t commend my officer team enough on their execution, flexibility, teamwork and collaboration,” Glass said. “Our goal is to ensure that every student is at the leading edge of their competitive ability with the mentorship and the structured support we offer at DECA.”
