The varsity boys basketball team lost 79-45 to the Sacred Heart Prep Gators at home last Thursday, bringing their overall record to 6-6 and their league record to 0-2.
The game started quickly, with Sacred Heart quickly racking up 18 points to Harker’s 6 by the end of the first quarter and the score reading 45-21 at halftime, during which the varsity cheer squad performed.
Emma Crook (10), a member of the varsity cheer squad, said that the game was fun to watch but that she was a bit disappointed with the results.
“It was a little rough, we definitely could have played better,” she said.
The Eagles were unable to overcome Sacred Heart despite a more evenly matched third quarter ending with a score of 56-35.
In the end, even with Harker’s continuous push, Sacred Heart beat the Eagles, ending with a final score of 79-45 to Sacred Heart.
“We didn’t take bad shots and we didn’t do anything wrong. We just didn’t make the shots”, head coach Butch Keller said. “We’ll prepare better next time.”
Despite their loss, varsity power forward John Zeng (10) continues to keep an optimistic outlook.
“It doesn’t feel good to lose, you know, but I know we’ll just push through it,” he said. “Even though we’re tired and we have these tough games, we’ll push through it and keep going, and we’ll win eventually.”
The Eagles next play at Woodside Priory High School on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Their next home game is on Thursday at 7 p.m. against Eastside College Prep.
