Aldo’s Cafe: Authentic family-style Italian

by Karina Chen, Reporter

The aroma of margarita pizzas and flavorful pastas greet customers as they walk into Aldo’s Cafe. Dimly lit Christmas lights line the ceilings, and black and white photos of the streets of Italy cover the walls. Bottles of olive oil and vinegar sit on top of the tables surrounded by families talking and laughing amongst themselves as they dig their forks into plates of pasta.

Aldo’s Cafe, a family-style restaurant located in Los Gatos, serves classic Italian dishes using fresh ingredients and authentic Italian recipes.

Meals at Aldo’s Cafe typically start with appetizers, soups and salads following warm bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Appetizers such as bruschetta, mozzarella caprese, caesar salad, mediterranean salad, minestrone soup and the soup of the day are offered to customers ranging from 10 to 20 dollars.

Gooey cheeses and the smell of marinara sauce diffuse across the tables of the restaurant. Aldo’s Cafe’s wide spectrum of homemade pizzas range from the classic margarita pizza to more unique pizzas topped with mushrooms and salmon as well as cheeses like mozzarella and gorgonzola.

A diverse selection of pastas usually ranging from 15 to 20 dollars is also served at Aldo’s Cafe. Customers feast on linguine, ravioli, gnocchi and fettuccine prepared with many types of sauces including cream sauce, tomato sauce and meat sauce.

Aldo’s Cafe also offers paninis with types of meat like prosciutto, roast beef, pastrami and grilled sausage, as well as vegetarian options like sandwiches with zucchini, eggplant, olives and mozzarella.

For dessert, waiters and waitresses serve slices of tiramisu paired with a cup of coffee or tea.

The hard work that happens in the kitchens never takes away from the friendly nature of the servers. With smiles plastered across their faces, Aldo’s Cafe creates a welcoming atmosphere for dining.
