Former National Football League (NFL) player, Jeff Garcia, stopped by the upper school to workout with the JV team, on Tuesday, October 20.
After warming up, the boys(varsity and JV) circled up and kneeled down as Dan Molin, Athletic Director, introduced the record setting NFL quarterback. Garcia told his football history and how he came to love the sport. Garcia has played since he was nine years old and has participated professionally in the Canadian Football League and the NFL.
Varsity player, Cole Davis (12), enjoyed meeting Jeff and appreciated the message he gave the players. “I can really relate to what he said,” Cole said.
Assistant Coach, Ray Fowler, believes that Jeff’s speech will help the team. “It’s a really positive message from a guy that played for a great team,” Fowler said.
Garcia ended his speech with a positive message. “ Never underestimate your goals and dreams. Shoot for the stars. Aim high. Don’t settle for less,” he said.
After speaking to the teams, Garcia scrimmaged and barbecued with the JV team.
This event happened as a result of the Doherty family winning a package at the auction during last year’s fashion show. John Patrick Doherty said. “ He really taught us a lot. He gave our quarterback some tips too.”
