The division four boys basketball team, number 10 seed, defeated Pacific Grove High School, number 15 seed, on February 22 at the Blackford Gym. The boys were in the lead most of the game with the help of sophomore Nikhil Panu, who scored 18 points total, followed by junior Stephen Hughes with 13.
The team is “just taking it game by game,” said Zachary Mank (12), “working hard to succeed at the next game, beat the next team.” Co-captain Partha Mahajani (12) expressed that the team’s “doable” season goal was to at least make it to semi-finals, one round further than last year.
“We don’t have any superstars. We have a few catalysts, but we have a solid team. We have good players,” Coach Jeremiah Brewer said.
Coach Brewer commented on how the Eagles were the favorite to win this round: “it is nice to survive and advance,” he said. “Now, it gets tough.”
The Eagles face the King’s Academy next on Thursday, February 24 at 7p.m.
