On Tuesday, December 21, Beach volleyball Olympic Gold Medallist Kerri Walsh visited Harker to put on two clinics for elementary and middle school volleyball players.
Since most fourth to sixth grade attendees were novice players, Kerri taught them the basics of volleyball: proper stance, arm positions, and footwork. Meanwhile, she taught many seventh and eighth grade players some of the more complex components of volleyball: blocking, hitting, and serving. Throughout the lesson, many family members and friends stayed to watch Walsh teach volleyball.
Toward the end of each two and half hour clinic, she gave the players a chance to take pictures and receive autographs from her. She handed out mini AVP volleyball replicas to each of the players for her to autograph. Other than the autographed ball, many players and family members also stood in line to take pictures with the Olympic Gold Medallist.
Many novice volleyball players left the Blackford gym with smiles while many were still astonished over the thought of meeting Kerri Walsh.
