The varsity girls golf team won a home match against Notre Dame Belmont with a score of 204-248 at Los Lagos Golf Course on Tuesday. This makes their overall record 9-4 so far this season.

The team’s coach, Ie-Chen Cheng, felt that the team’s strengths lie in their large, 17-player team and the experience of the team’s members.

“Honestly, we’re deeper than any other team we’ve had in the past, so we usually try to use our depth to beat the opponents,” she said. “I like to say this year we’re a lot more mature. We’ve probably gained a lot of experience in the past couple of years.”

Cheng feels that the team’s main weakness is putting from short distances.

Devanshi Mehta (10) has been a member of the team since last year, and she was one of the eight players in this match. One of her main challenges was remaining emotionally neutral throughout the match.

“I’m usually a very optimistic person, but in golf you want to remain unemotional because if you get too optimistic, you end up being overconfident; but then if you’re pessimistic, you don’t hit the ball well either,” she said. “For me, it’s about finding balance because I always get really emotional.”

The team plays their next game on Oct. 18 at 4 p.m. against Sacred Heart Preparatory at the Palo Alto Hills Country Club.
