Varsity girls soccer lost 0-1 to Notre Dame San Jose at an away game today at 4:00 p.m. at Watson Park’s Abronzino Soccer Field.

Despite a strong defense, Notre Dame scored one goal against the Eagles in the first half the game. In the second half, neither team scored, keeping the score at 0-1.

With today’s loss, varsity girls soccer has a league ranking of 0-5 and 0-9-1 overall.

The Notre Dame team had their seniors night with a total of ten seniors playing their last home game today.

“This is a hard game because [Notre Dame] had ten seniors and we only have one,” Lilia Gonzales (9) said. “Also, we have 12 freshmen, which is a lot.”

Although the Eagles lost, they had made great progress since their previous game against Notre Dame with a score of 0-5.

“We were extremely organized and disciplined in defense for our team,” varsity girls soccer head coach Iman Siadat said. “Defensively, we were organized and resilient and that’s why the score was only 0-1.”

Other players thought that the reason for the improvement in score difference was the determination all the players had.

“I think that we kept pushing hard and we didn’t stop defending, and that’s really motivating us all,” co-captain Lyndsey Mitchell (11) said.

Krishna Bheda (10) felt like certain aspects of their play today needed to be adjusted in order to gain better results in the future.

“I think we need to be more aware in the middle and mark more,” Bheda said. “We also need to improve our communication amongst the whole team.”

The girls will play against Menlo School along with the JV boys and varsity boys teams for Harker’s annual Kicks Against Cancer event tomorrow at 4:45 p.m. at Davis Field.
