The events of this week, including spirit activities and a win for the boys’ basketball team, were infused with holiday cheer in anticipation for the winter break.
“I love all the spirit events because [they] include so many people. When you can include that many people that are having fun, it’s an awesome event,” Butch Keller said. “I’m [also] really excited about the holiday tour. I heard a lot of high school kids talk about how much fun that is. That’s been a pleasant surprise for me every year that the Upper School kids look forward to it so much. [Finally], I’m a little biased about the basketball season starting and how much fun that is for everyone.”
Over the course of the past week, students engaged in various holiday spirit events. Each class decorated windows in Manzanita in accordance with the season’s theme, incorporating artwork from holiday cartoon characters to murals. Later in the week, students and faculty alike decorated ginger bread houses by adorning graham crackers with icing and candy during long lunch on Wednesday, December 5.
The Varsity boys’ basketball team, coached by Keller, reigned victorious in its game against Lynbrook High School on Thursday, December 6, winning with a score of 72-28. Additionally, the Junior Varsity boys’ team has a season record of 3-1 after winning its game against Mt. Pleasant High School on Wednesday, December 5, with a score of 38-21. While the freshmen boys’ team lost its home opener against Oak Grove High School on Saturday, December 1, it narrowly missed a win with a score of 70-72 in overtime.
Closing the week, the annual holiday assembly took place on Friday, December 7, featuring performing arts groups from all campuses. Starting with the Upper School orchestra and ending with the fifth and sixth grade Dance Fusion group, the show included holiday music, carols, and dances of several different genres.
Keller’s Korner will resume at the start of the 2013 calendar year. We wish everyone a very happy holiday vacation and a restful break.
