The week before Thanksgiving break gave the student body its first glimpse of holiday cheer with Light Up The Row. Additional events included a spirit competition and volleyball Central Coast Section (CCS) semifinals.
“There were several highlights. I think that when you have an occasion for the athletic team to go as far in CCS as the volleyball team did, that in itself is a great accomplishment. For our community, the support on the road [is] something to applaud our community for,” Butch Keller said. “The tree-lighting ceremony at Santana Row–when all of these students represent Harker in such an incredible way like that, anyone who is paying attention is really proud of an event where Harker just shines in so many ways. The vocal groups were amazing.”
Groups from the Performing Arts Department of all three campuses performed at Santana Row’s annual Light Up The Row holiday tree-lighting celebration on Tuesday, November 13. Performers included the Varsity and Junior Varsity dance troupes and Downbeat. Several members of the community showed up to support their classmates. Meanwhile, on Thursday, November 15, Cantilena, Camerata, and Guys’ Gig held their annual concert with the patriotic theme of “Our Home.”
The Varsity girls’ volleyball team concluded their season during the CCS semifinals on Wednesday, November 14. The team has made it as far as they did once before. Surrounded by a crowd of cheering fans and members of the community, the team lost to Harbor High School with match scores 25-18, 21-25, 25-18, and 25-14.
In anticipation of the holiday season, students participated in an inter-class spirit event on Thursday, November 15 during lunch. Each grade chose a few competitors who had to eat as much pumpkin pie as they could without using their hands.
Keller’s Korner will resume the week after Thanksgiving. We hope everyone has a restful and enjoyable vacation.
