Around 30 students from each class participated in a LEGO skyscraper building competition as part of Spirit Week activities in the Innovation Center during lunch yesterday.

Due to heavy rain, the Harker Spirit Leadership Team (HSLT) canceled the preliminary rounds for Ultimate Frisbee, which they combined into one event to occur tomorrow, and instead held the LEGO building competition. A team representing each grade collaborated on building a skyscraper out of LEGOs, and upper school math teacher Anthony Silk judged the towers based on their height and design.

With the sophomore and junior towers reaching the same height, the junior tower narrowly attained victory in a decision based on its design. As the winning team, the junior class will receive a prize of doughnut holes. HSLT Executive Secretary Arjun Moogimane (11) expresses his pride for HSLT’s efforts to adjust to the weather and gratitude for the community’s understanding of the last minute changes and enthusiastic participation.

“People were really helpful, they were really understanding,” Arjun said. “The weather happens, and the LEGO club was really cool putting this event together last minute, bringing a bunch of LEGOs, all of the work to change the schedule around and make sure everyone is aware. It’s a little stressful, but it works.”

HSLT canceled today’s pool activities due to inclement weather. Tomorrow, all four classes will compete in an Ultimate Frisbee game during lunch.
