Book Corner: A warm welcome from Harker Aquila

by Alysa Suleiman, A&E Editor

Welcome to Book Corner, Harker Aquila’s newest project introducing our staff’s reviews on one non-fiction book each staff member has chosen to read. At the end of each week, one review will be published to carry our readers into the weekend with a new title.

To introduce this project, Harker Journalism spoke with upper school librarian Amy Pelman, who shares some of her favorite non-fiction books, ranging from natural science to personal memoirs to investigative reporting. Through Book Corner, we hope to provide a source of inspiration for our upper school community in selecting a compelling piece of non-fiction as the year continues.

Pelman’s book recommendations:

“The End of Everything: (Astrophysically Speaking)” by Katie Mack

“Hidden Valley Road” by Robert Kolker

“Becoming Wild” by Carl Safina

“Minor Feelings” by Cathy Park Hong

“Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents” by Isabel Wilkerson

“How We Fight for Our Lives” by Saeed Jones
