For the first time in the program’s history, the varsity boys water polo team advanced to the Central Coast Section (CCS) tournament, before dropping out last Tuesday. The team’s results have allowed it to enter into a higher league within the CCS.

The Central Coast Section is one of the 10 sections that make up the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF), an organization in charge of high school sports in California.

The varsity team lost to Half Moon Bay High School 14-5 last Tuesday. Junior Varsity water polo player Sahil Gosain, who also played in the game, still feels optimistic about the fact that Harker made it to CCS and has hopes that the team will qualify again in the future.

Hopefully this will continue all the way through my senior year, all the way up to that point and even further than that,” he said.

Coach Victor Adler sees this season as a precursor to future success of the water polo program.

“We achieved the goal and it is the first step to moving up a couple of ranks,” Adler said.

Co-captain of the boys water polo team, Arnav Tandon (12), also expressed his hopes for his team.

“This season, we really saw what we could do. I’m really excited to see what [my younger teammates] can do in a better league,” Arnav said. “I’m sure they are going to be right in the heat of things, because we have a really good team going, and it’s just exciting for me as a senior to know that I was a part of that team.”

This season, boys water polo won the CCS Academic Championships with the highest GPA among all Central Coast Section schools.

Many of the players now head into the offseason to prepare for next year’s season.
