Harker Spirit will take students to Sharks Ice in San Jose for the ice skating trip next Friday, January 22.

Permission slips for the annual activity were initially due on Friday, but because several students asked to join, the deadline has been extended to next Tuesday.

“For one thing, Spirit has done [the ice skating social] for a couple years, so it is a special winter tradition,” secretary of Harker Spirit Team Kurt Schwartz (12) said. “It’s also great because this is one of the few community events we host that’s outside of school. And of course it is a great chance for kids to get together outside of the house and have fun.”

Because it rarely hosts events outside of school, Harker Spirit worked hard to excite the community about the ice skating social.

“I think the amount of time Spirit has worked in organizing this event reflects on what a quality experience those who go will be having,” Spirit Coordinator of the Class of 2017 Haley Tran (11) said.

Many students, staff and faculty have already signed up for the social and more are looking forward to the opportunity of ice skating with friends.

“I think the ice skating activity is a great for people to come together and show their spirit, and for all of us to come together as a school and really grow as a unit and as a family,” Arnav Tandon (11) said.

Transportation will be provided; a bus will leave at 7 p.m. from the back loading zone on the Saratoga campus and be back at 9:30 p.m. Moreover, students can either rent ice skates at the event or bring their own.
