How to ask someone to Winter Ball

by Megan Cardosi, TALON Organizations Editor

Winter Ball is approaching; a common issue with dances is the question of whether to ask someone to be your date or not. There’s nothing wrong with going stag, but if you are stuck wondering how to invite that special someone, here are some ideas.

      1. Make a poster. This poster can include an inside joke or a clever line such as “I can’t bear to go to winter ball without you,” accompanied by a bag of gummy bears or “I donut want to go to winter ball without you,” accessorized with a box of donuts. While these posters may seem clichéd, they can be quite cute and humorous. Also, making a poster shows that you cared enough to put a lot of effort into your invite.
      2. Give them flowers. If you don’t know what flower they’d like best, stick with roses, a classic symbol of romance and love.
      3. Make them laugh by cracking a joke. Some humor will hopefully relieve some of the stress you may be feeling.
“You make a really, really, really good pun,” Shaya Zarkesh (10) said. “That’s like the only thing you can possibly do.” Some possible puns are “I moustache you to Winter Ball,” or “whale you go to Winter Ball with me?”
      4. Keep it simple. Just pull them aside and ask them straightforward. Depending on who you are asking, this could be a good option if you want to avoid the attention a public ask can lead to.

Although no invite is guaranteed a yes, hopefully you will have had fun thinking of a fun and creative way to ask them.
Good luck with your asks!

Winter ball is being hosted by the junior class on Feb. 20. Tickets are 30 dollars each, but if 75 percent of an advisory attends, each advisory member receives a five dollar discount.
