Students dress up as the Queen of Hearts and the Mad Hatter from Alice and Wonderland. Harker’s students and faculty showcased a variety of costumes on Halloween last Friday.

From a day off to Halloween festivities to a Wednesday concert, the past two weeks were filled with opportunities for students to relax.

There were no classes last Monday, which was the end of a three-day weekend. This three-day weekend is part of a new schedule for this school year that increases the number of breaks.  –hyperlink to wp article about this-.

On Thursday, representatives from each advisory met during designated advisory time to review and discuss possible changes to the dress code. Representatives met in mixed groups and discussed the proposed dress code.

The suggested amendments include fingertip length skirts, logos and words on shirts being allowed, and a lack of a strap rule. The possible dress code emphasized students choosing what they think is appropriate and professional as opposed to having specific rules.

“I think the dress code is a lot more reasonable now,” said Molly Wancewitz (10). “I think it was good that we had representation [in the council] from a lot of different groups like girls and boys and a lot of different grades.”

On Halloween last Friday, students and faculty alike dressed up for the school day.

Marc Hufnagl, Sophomore English teacher, performed three songs during long lunch this Wednesday. He also debuted his album, Lunden, for Harker only. The formal release of the album was in May, but he decided to postpone his album’s Harker debut because of end-of-the-year business.

The songs he performed at lunch are of a similar motif, but are not part of Lunden.

“There’s a little bit more jazz infusion,” Hufnagl explained. The three songs he performed will be included in a later album.

“I’m planning on a second CD, but I don’t have enough material yet,” he said. “It’s so much fun to record. Recording in and of itself is kind of an artistic venue too. I want to continue to play around with it.”
