“The most important thing in terms of practicing big pieces is bringing it down to smaller chunks and practicing those smaller chunks. When I practice, I dont usually run through the whole song just because that’s not how you get better. You have to look at smaller sections, get good at those sections, then add it all up to make the whole piece good,” Matthew Chen (23) said.

Sometimes, Id challenge the coach and say, I dont think this makes sense. The coach, instead of saying, No, listen to me, would actually reconsider, and then give us a better answer, or reaffirm the answers proving were wrong with actual biology to teach us. The coaches have been extremely nice and actually taught me so much beyond just being a track runner, Zain Vakath (23) said.

“To some extent, being a senior on the team means that I have more people relying on me and more people actually believing that I can be of any help to them. Thats whats really emotional and really heartwarming is that I started off heavily relying on my seniors. They helped me with so many different things and to see that I was really able to fulfill their legacy and help the next generation as well, that’s all I hope for,” Jessica Zhou (23) said.

I like to see how much I’ve grown. I’m proud to say that the Charmander on my screen became a real sketch; and maybe someday I can create a game that inspires someone like it did for me, Carlo Banzon (23) said.

Even though high school can be daunting at Harker, don’t be afraid, and go out and do what you want to do. I was scared to try things at first: I didn’t try out for the DECA leadership team, I didn’t play football, and I didn’t hang out with the people that I wanted to hang out with. If you fall down, you’ll be able to get yourself back up, Rohan Gorti (23) said.

In a way, music is a second language for me. When I sit down at the piano, or when I’m performing, I get a sense of comfort, because at that moment, I don’t need to do anything. The music does it for me, and that’s what makes it all worth it, Hita Thota (12) said.
