"On the basketball team, I want to make everyone feel like they’re part of the team. For SDC, I want every member of the community to feel like they belong. They’re definitely tied together. In a sense, I want people to always feel like they belong wherever they are, whether that’s at school or on a basketball team," KJ Williams ('23) said.

"One thing that figure skating really taught me was to manage your emotions and expectations and feelings. With investment banking, it's a very similar situation where you're constantly on edge. A lot of what you do isn't dependent on your own work. It's dependent on other people, or it’s dependent on the stock market. Those lessons will be able to translate very well into my actual career," Trisha Variyar ('23) said.

"I always that there are some things that are going to always be out of my control, like people's opinions of me, but that’s someone else's decision. If I just keep working towards [my goal] and not think too much about what other people think of me, my hard work does pay off in the end," Emma Biswas ('23) said.

"One of the main things for me is training hard in practice, because you only see results by working hard. In track, you often run the same speed or time over and over, and you feel stuck, which is really frustrating. Trusting the process and knowing that sticking with the training and working hard will lead to progress is something that keeps me going," Andrew Fu ('23) said.

"I like to analyze both myself psychologically and just like things in general by trying to notice details. It's helped me know myself better. I understand why I'm doing certain things, even if they aren't the best thing, so I can work towards becoming a better person," Amrita Pasupathy ('23) said.

“The most important thing in terms of practicing big pieces is bringing it down to smaller chunks and practicing those smaller chunks. When I practice, I don't usually run through the whole song just because that’s not how you get better. You have to look at smaller sections, get good at those sections, then add it all up to make the whole piece good,” Matthew Chen ('23) said.

"Sometimes, I'd challenge the coach and say, 'I don't think this makes sense.' The coach, instead of saying, 'No, listen to me,' would actually reconsider, and then give us a better answer, or reaffirm the answers proving we're wrong with actual biology to teach us. The coaches have been extremely nice and actually taught me so much beyond just being a track runner," Zain Vakath ('23) said.

"Water polo is one of the most physically demanding sports. I've gained lots of strength from it. I've also been able to be a part of a sports varsity sports team. “To some extent, being a senior on the team means that I have more people relying on me and more people actually believing that I can be of any help to them. That's what's really emotional and really heartwarming is that I started off heavily relying on my seniors. They helped me with so many different things and to see that I was really able to fulfill their legacy and help the next generation as well, that’s all I hope for,” Jessica Zhou ('23) said.
