During school meeting, Associated Student Body (ASB) announced that it was preparing for the relaunch of the student breakfast program, which will provide students with the opportunity to purchase breakfast each morning.
In preparation for the program, ASB Treasurer Kevin Lin (12) created an Athena questionnaire designed to poll students about how often they would buy breakfast and what specific items they would prefer.
The program is projected to be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. before school, and would cost three dollars per person. To buy breakfast each day for a week would cost a student $15, for a month, about $60, and for the school year, about $540.
“I think that the pricing is reasonable, but I will not participate on a daily basis because I eat breakfast at home,” Ariana Shulman (11) said. “For some students, it may be helpful because they don’t have enough time in the morning.”
According to Kevin, last year’s program was shut down due to stolen food products.
Consequently, new features to the breakfast program this year include the use of student ID cards for entry and charge to minimize the problem of theft. Each day, one hot item will be served, such as breakfast burritos and breakfast sandwiches in addition to a vegetarian option. Cold items such as yogurt and muffins will also be served in a buffet style.
“If the system is enforced that you can’t go in without paying, it will be good,” Michael Lin (10) said. “It benefits the people who come in really early. Since I live next door, I don’t think I would need to get breakfast early.”
As ASB refines the student breakfast program prior to its launch, students consider other convenient breakfast options. Michael suggested a vending machine that would sell breakfast products such as cereal or oatmeal.
The program is anticipated to launch at the start of the second semester on January 14.
