During long lunch yesterday, students participated in a surprise spirit event, which resulted in the seniors and sophomores tying for first place, followed by the juniors in third and the freshmen in fourth.
Each class had a little under an hour to create outfits for two models, one boy and one girl, out of miscellaneous supplies which included trash bags, ribbons, streamers, and duct tape. Following the work period, the models walked down a mock runway in front of crowds of their peers.
Spirit club collaborated with members of the fashion show committee to plan an event that would be enjoyable for students and created enthusiasm for the show.
“[We] tried to make this spirit event really promote the fashion show because in the past there haven’t been a lot of new people [involved]. This is just a way to show off creativity and just have fun with it,” Spirit Club President Andre Tran (12) said. “We had a slow start with people showing up, but everyone […] made really awesome designs.”
Sophomore Jeffrey Hsu was one of the students involved in designing the outfits for his class’s models.
“I love[d] it. Fashion is so much fun and I think this [was] probably the best spirit event ever,” he said.
Junior Andy Wang, one of the models for his class, also enjoyed participating in the event.
“It was really fun; we got to be as crazy as possible,” he said. “The decorations were really hectic, but in the end it was really fun.”
Once designs were finished, they were showcased in a mini fashion show and judged by four of the fashion show committee members. Scoring was based on the design and creativity of each outfit, the runway presence from each model, and the amount of cheering by each class.
