On Monday March 5, Red Cross Club hosted its first event of the week in the Edge.
During both lunches, groups from each class created a tower with materials such as Nutella, marshmallows, graham crackers, and a variety of candies. Red Cross Club officers periodically shook the table to test the durability of the structures.
“It’s just a fun way to educate [students] about the dangers of earthquakes,” club officer Sumit Minocha (11) said. “There weren’t as many people as we expected, but the people that did come participated a lot, and they had a lot of fun.”
During first lunch, only the freshmen and sophomore classes participated in the competition. Anna Levine (10) formed a group with Renu Singh (10) and Lea Daran (10).
“I wanted to participate because I like candy,” Anna said. “[Our plan] is to use graham crackers to make a fort.”
Every day this week, Red Cross Club is organizing different activities to raise awareness for disaster preparation. Tomorrow the club will hold a blood drive from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the gym.
Results from today’s competition to be released; check back for updates.
