On Thursday February 23, 41 HBC (Harker Business Club) students left the Upper School via bus for Irvine, CA to participate in a four-day DECA conference.
The conference begins today February 23 and ends Sunday February 26. Students will be competing in roleplays and written events at the state conference held at the Irvine Marriot. Activities include an optional Disneyland trip, a chapter dinner, and various business workshops.
Leaving at 6:25 am, some students feel prepared for their events.
“Even though we finaled in [the DECA Northern California Conference], we want to get to first or second [at states] and that is what drove us to do even more preparation than the last [event],” said first year member Simar Mangat (11).
However, some students are not as ready for their competition due to the nature of the roleplay events.
“I haven’t prepared for my roleplay because I feel like that is something you can do on the spot and you don’t really need to study for it,” said second year member Mabel Luo (10).
After stating that the students’ behavior at the Northern California Conference was great, Mary Mortlock, HBC Club advisor, said she is extremely excited about the state conference.
“We’re looking forward to this competition because we’ve got such a wonderful group of students who we know are going to do very well and make Harker proud,” Mortlock said.
