School meeting recap 11/3

Next week is Harker Eclectic Literary Magazine’s (HELM) club week, and they will be selling pearl milk tea during lunch on Nov. 7 and 8 and after school on Nov. 10. HELM will also be hosting an art workshop during long lunch on Nov. 7 and a writing workshop during long lunch on Nov. 9. Work to be workshopped can be submitted to [email protected].

TEDx’s speaker series and company product booths showcases will be taking place tomorrow at the upper school, and tickets for the event are available on tedxharker.org.

Harker’s newest talent show, Quadchella, took place during long lunch today in the auxiliary gym, with performances starting at 12:20 p.m. Attendees were given flash tattoos, laptop stickers and face paint, and Art Club organized a banana painting activity before the performances.

The speech and debate team played a video about this year’s tournaments and spoke about the team’s successes in the season so far.

Linguistics Club announced the North American Computational Linguistics Olympiad (NACLO), which will be taking place on Jan. 25. Signups are open at nacloweb.org.

Learning, Innovation and Design Director Diane Main spoke about the illegal usage of online textbooks happening at the upper school via the link tiny.cc/textbooks and asked students to use alternate methods for procuring and using textbooks, such as buying digital versions and using teacher or library copies.

Harker Athletics gave a short update about games this past week and encouraged students and faculty to support the teams at upcoming games this week.

TALON played a video reminding students that yearbooks ordered before Nov. 10 are 20 dollars off.

The upper school’s dodgeball tournament will be reinstated this year, and the event will take place on Nov. 9 in the athletics center. In the preliminary round, freshmen will be playing against the juniors, and the sophomores will be playing against the seniors. Spirit club and DECA, the organizers of the event, will be selling pearl milk tea during the game. A signup sheet was emailed to students today.
