Model UN officers Anuva Mittal (12) and Haley Tran (12) sell boba as part of Model UN’s club week outside of Manzanita. They will only be selling for three days, as parent-teacher conferences will be taking place on both Thursday and Friday of this week.

The Upper School’s Model United Nations (MUN) chapter hosted its club week this week and sold bubble tea to raise money for the Malala Fund.

MUN trains for and participates in academic competitions in which members simulate United Nations proceedings, with conferences throughout the year. The Malala Fund, named after Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai, aims to provide all girls with 12 years of education.

Chapter members sold tea from Teaspoon for $6 each during lunch and after school on Monday, yesterday and today. MUN will not be selling tomorrow and Friday due to parent-teacher-student conferences.

“I think [MUN] is an extremely useful program in helping high school students develop public speaking skills and global awareness on contemporary policy issues,” MUN co-secretary of membership development Logan Bhamidipaty (10) said. “We found out about the Malala Fund while at a Model UN conference, and the mission really resonated with what we felt Harker Model UN was, which was education and awareness.”

The next club week will be Interact’s in two weeks, after spring break next week.
