From November 13th to the 28th, Red Cross Club and SFCC Club (Students for Charitable Causes) are holding a drive for toiletries and canned foods to donate to the military and to the less fortunate.
The drive is set up as a class competition. Two sets of bins for each class are located around the campus to donate canned foods. By making the drive a class competition, the Red Cross Club hopes to create an extra incentive for students to bring in more goods.
“Because all the classes want to win, they’re going to want to donate more which will be better,” said Sachin Peddada (9).
According to Nitya Mani (9), the Community Services Coordinator of the Silicon Valley chapter of the Red Cross, and Preeya Mehta (11), president of the Upper School chapter of the Red Cross, the Red Cross especially lacks donations of toiletries. They are working with the school to fill that gap and gather supplies that are in need.
“It’s great helping people who don’t have food. Tons of people have canned food in abundance in their pantries that they never open,” said Christina Liang (10).
With Thanksgiving approaching, the Red Cross food and toiletries drive hopes to gather one to two hundred items by the end of the week.
