Varsity boys water polo defeated Fremont High School 16-6 on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Singh Aquatics Center.

The Eagles led in the first quarter 5-0, and stayed ahead of their opponents with a score of 10-3 in the second quarter, 12-3 in the third quarter, finishing the match with a score of 16-6 in the fourth quarter.

Starting set Matthew Hajjar (10) discussed the team’s performance after the match.

“The game went pretty well. I think one of our lows was when we were a little disoriented in defense, and we just lost track of the ball,” he said. “I think we came back a lot of times earlier when we came down to the offense, set up properly, moved the ball around and got some good passes in.”

Varsity Coach Victor Adler pinpointed a play that secured the win for the Eagles early in the game.

“We played the defense that we wanted to play going in the first three quarters,” he said. “Our fast breaks [stood out]. Our defense create[d] opportunities for fast breaks. That put us up 10-3.”

Fremont’s team, despite the loss, believe that they put forth a great effort against Harker. Nathan Chen, a player on the Fremont team, shared his thoughts on his team’s improvement from the previous time they played the Eagles.

I think we played really well, considering that last time we had 26 turnovers. This time we only had 16,” Nathan said. “I think our whole team played extremely well, but I think we can work on passing more.”

Varsity boys water polo will play next at Santa Clara High School.
