On the evening of Friday October 23rd, senior cheerleaders proudly represented both their team and their four years of hard work and dedication towards the cheerleading program as they received high recognition during their annual Senior Night.
“When you’re involved in a team, you grow with them. So your last [game] is really special and it is what you are going to remember,” Coach Jill Bettencourt said. “It really pushes me as a coach to try and create something special for their last performance[…] I want to make them feel like this is their night.”
Led by captain Saira Ahuja (12), the cheerleading squad had their last home performance during half-time at Friday’s football game against Fremont High.
“I’m going to miss the bond we as a team have with each other,” said Saira.
Both seniors on the squad, Jessica Lin (12) and Saira Ahuja (12), began their cheerleading careers as freshmen, and believe the program has improved drastically since then.
“Our cheer team started out relatively unknown […] In fact, I remember our first game. There were only three people present and four cheerleaders on the squad,” Saira said. “Now, we’ve grown so much, both in size and as individuals being part of something as great as the squad […] Senior Night truly is a culmination of the hard work we put in for the last four years.”
