Philosophy club conference to be held on Saturday

The Philosophy Club will host its first conference with guest speakers, Professor Rob Reich and Author Jack Bowen, this Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon in the Upper School campus.
According to the Philosophy Club’s online website, the goals of the conference are to help solidify philosophical interests among fellow high-school students and to serve as a breeding ground for critical thinkers in Silicon Valley based on a philosophical perspective. The event includes a Keynote address, student-led discussion sessions allowing for deeper philosophical discussion and a closing address as the end.
The first speaker, Rob Reich, is a Professor of Political Science at Stanford University. The main focus of his talk will be an analysis of the effectiveness of the Constitution in sustaining social order based on abstract principles. He currently teaches Justice and the Constitution, a course which includes the application of philosophy into society.
The second speaker, Jack Bowen, is a graduate of Stanford University in Human Biology and has a Master’s Degree in Philosophy as well as Latin Honors. Featured in many universities, his book have been acclaimed by sources such as the New York Times, USA Today and NPR.
As a bonus to students taking AP U.S. History, attendees of the conference are given extra credit because ..
“The philosophy conference definitely sounds interesting. The keynote speakers sound like they’ll have great talks,” Lucas Wang (11) said. “Plus the extra credit for AP U.S. History is a nice incentive to go.”
Tickets will be sold for $5 and can be purchased through the Philosophy Club’s website or on the day of the event.
