The 58th annual Grammy award show took place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Monday night.
Taylor Swift won Album of the Year for 1989. She also took home an award for Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Music Video. She now has a total of ten Grammy awards.
Swift’s acceptance speech was indirectly responding to Kanye West’s remarks about Swift. West claimed that he “made [her] famous” in his song “Famous.”
“There are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame” Swift said as she hinted at West during her acceptance speech.
Shea Tuli (10) had neutral feelings about Swift’s speech and awards.
“There were better albums out there that deserved awards” Shea said. “1989 was not amazing. But her speech was cool, I like how she directed it towards Kanye because he’s been mean to her a lot.”
Record of the Year went to Bruno Mars’ and Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk.” The other nominees in this category were D’Angelo’s “Really Love,” Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud,” Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space” and The Weeknd’s “Can’t Feel My Face.”
Justin Bieber won his first Grammy award ever after being nominated twice in 2011. He took home a Grammy for Best Dance Recording for his song with Skrillex and Diplo, “Where Are U Now.”
Famous artists such as Drake, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna and more did not attend the award show. This caused some frustration with students, since they did not get to witness their favorite artists on the red carpet.
Neeraj Aggarwal (10), a strong supporter of Drake, was disappointed that he was not at the Grammy’s.
“[Drake is] really one of the best rappers or R&B singers out there; he should’ve been [at the Grammy’s] for sure.” Neeraj said. “I saw on Facebook that they forgot to nominate him for ‘Hotline Bling’ and that’s why he didn’t show up. If he actually got nominated he would have definitely won.”
Performances from The Weeknd, Adele and Justin Bieber earned standing ovations as well as many other artists who sang hit songs. The Weeknd sang “Can’t Feel My Face,” a song which was nominated for Record of the Year and another, “In The Night.” Adele performed her song “All I Ask” that was co written with Bruno Mars. Justin Bieber sang and danced to his hit song “Where Are U Now” along with Skrillex and Diplo and performed “Love Yourself” from his latest album alone.
A glitch in Adele’s microphone caused her voice to be inaudible for a few seconds as she sang “All I Ask.” After the show she tweeted, “because [of the glitch]…I’m treating myself to In N Out. So maybe it was worth it.”

The process [of] making a build complete to your desire is such a painstakingly difficult process, but I've had to learn from [the skills needed from] soldering to proper painting. There's so many different options for everything, if you think about it, it exists. The best part is [that] if it doesn't exist, you can build it yourself," Ishaan Parate said.](https://harkeraquila.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/DSC_8149-900x604.jpg)
