The Yale Science and Engineering Forum was hosted at Nichols Hall on Sunday, September 25, providing students and parents with an occasion to become acquainted with both university life and its science offerings.
Attended by over hundreds of prospective applicants and parents from schools across the Bay Area, the forum was an introduction to Yale’s undergraduate science and engineering program. Professor Meg Urry, head of the physics department, and Professor W. Mark Saltzman, chair of biomedical engineering, both presented at the meeting, highlighting the numerous advantages of attending the university.
“I thought [the forum] was interesting because it brought two actual professors to talk to us from Yale,” said Albert Wu (12).
Dr. Urry discussed the unique teaching methods of Yale classes and its benefits to students, while also speaking about the university’s special programs for freshmen undergraduates such as science-concentrated seminars, lecture courses, and research opportunities.
Following Dr. Urry’s presentation, Dr. Saltzman spoke about the engineering division and the accomplishments of recent graduates of that discipline, including a design for a 3-D camera.
“Bioengineering and physics [provided] some good insights into how research is at Yale,” Wu said.
The conference concluded with a session for students and parents to ask the professors and admissions officers questions about Yale.
