Head of School Christopher Nikoloff talks about his lecture series that will address questions posed by the book “The Book” by Alan Watts. Students can earn a certificate and a gift for attending all four lecture sessions throughout the year.

The Honor Council conducted a short survey, asking students the following questions: “What does honor mean to you?”, “What instances of honor have you seen on campus?” and “What is some honorable wisdom to brighten up your day?” Members of the honor council introduced themselves and briefly discussed some changes they made to decrease student stress, such as increasing the length of extra help, shortening Monday meetings or having solo advisories. Students can express concerns to honor council by emailing [email protected].

Ashley Devlin (9) and Jenny Bourke (12) discussed their coming out in the community as lesbian and bisexual students. They touched upon the acceptance and respect they have received from the Harker community.

Head of School Christopher Nikoloff is starting his lecture series regarding basic philosophical ideas. The series will cover topics covered in the book “The Book” by Allan Watts. Students who choose to attend all four sessions will receive a certificate and a gift. The first lecture will be held on Nov. 1 from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

Seniors Edward Sheu, Zeyad El-Arabaty, Jonathan Trinh, Helena Dworak and Yasmin Narin will play their last home game on water polo senior night this Thursday. Boys’ water polo starts at 4:15 p.m. and girls’ water polo starts at 6:15 p.m. Girls’ golf senior night is today against Mercy High School Burlingame with seniors Daphne Liang and Ashley Zhong playing their last home game from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. In addition, girl’s golf defeated Notre Dame last week.

Harker football won against Turlock High School last week, bringing their record to 6-1. This Friday, the team will face St. Vincent de Paul High School.

The girls’ cross country team won third place overall at Baylands Park. The team will compete again next Wednesday before the league championships.

The girls’ tennis lost to Menlo High School last week, but won against Pinewood. Its current record is 8-2 overall.

The girls’ volleyball is still undefeated in the league after the victory against Mercy Burlingame. The girls have a game against Menlo this Thursday at Blackford.

The cast for “the Laramie Project” will present their play on Oct. 29, 30 and 31 at 7 p.m. Tickets will be sold in front of Manzanita during both lunches this week.

From March 27 to 31, students have the opportunity to experience historic New York City, as they visit landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge and 9/11 historical and memorial museum. Those who are interested can attend the information meeting on Oct. 21 at 11:45 a.m. in Shah 401.

The journalism program reminded students to clean up stray newspapers after reading them. They also mentioned that articles published in the Winged Post can now be viewed on Harker Aquila.

The Harker Research Club is holding a talk, by Brent Houston, a polar explorer and naturalist, from 12 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Nichols Auditorium. He was a field instructor during the Harker Expedition to the High Arctic and Iceland. He will discuss how climate is affecting species in polar regions and the effects of continually disappearing ice in the Arctic.
