The Varsity girls’ tennis team defeated Fremont High School 7-0 on Wednesday, September 21.
Despite the scorching heat, all seven groups of singles and doubles players won their opponents, setting the team’s overall record to 4-0.
In addition, over the weekend, the team won the Santa Catalina Invitational in Monterey for the first time in history. Five out of seven groups reached the semifinals, while four groups competed in the finals.
“Santa Catalina was a really big win. It was really important to us because we lost a lot of players, and at first we were a little concerned, but [the tournament] totally made us more confident,” co-captain Tanya Piskun (12) said.
According to head coach Craig Pasqua, the team’s goals for the year include winning its league and qualifying for Central Coast Section (CCS).
“Certainly some big challenges lay ahead, but I’m very pleased with the progress so far,” Pasqua said.
The team next plays against Evergreen Valley High School on Thursday, September 22 at the Blackford campus.
