ASB holds Dress Code Open Forum
Students, faculty and administration participated in an open forum regarding the dress code and its enforcement in hopes to promote a platform for campus-wide communication about dress code related issues throughout the community late Monday afternoon in the Nichols Hall Auditorium.
After the dress code committee, consisted of students, faculty, parents and administration, revised the dress code at the end of last year, students were allowed to wear dresses, shorts and skirts that met the “fingertip rule” or t-shirts with pre-approved Harker motifs, college logos or solid colors.
The Associated Student Body (ASB) announced the informal meeting late Friday afternoon after seeing numerous student reactions regarding the dress code on social media.
The meeting was moderated by both Upper School Dean of Students Kevin Williamson and ASB President Michael Zhao (12).
Topics of the meeting included the possibility of more logos on clothing, policy of sportswear on game days, and the actual method of enforcement of the dress code.
The ASB and administration plan to hold more meetings in the future regarding the dress code. All dress code policies remain in effect.
Harker Aquila will be providing ongoing coverage of the dress code controversy.
