The internet is exploding over this very important question: is #TheDress white and gold or blue and black?
Caitlin McNeill originally posted a picture of this color-confusing dress on her tumblr account. “Guys please help me – is this dress white and gold, or blue and black?” Caitlin said. “Me and my friends can’t agree.”
Caitlin’s image spread like a wildfire on Tumblr, Instagram and Facebook last night. Celebrities such as Joe Jonas, Ellen DeGeneres and Taylor Swift expressed their confusion regarding the true color of the dress on their social media accounts.
The true color of the dress is indeed royal blue and black, but has fooled the eyes of even scientists. The claim that color is an individual’s perception of light is what caused a controversy regarding the true color of the dress; in addition, cells in our eyes called rods and cones play a role in determining color. The poor exposure of the photo may have also contributed to the contrasting opinions regarding the dress’ true color.
