On Sunday, August 28, 2011 Christophe Pellissier (12) and Nik Datuashvili (11) participated in the annual Santa Rosa Marathon, finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively in their division of 15-20 year old males.
“It was unlike anything I’ve ever done in my life,” said Datuashvili, describing the race as “beyond exhausting.”
The marathon, a double 13.1 mile loop beginning in Juillard Park of downtown Santa Rosa, started at 7 a.m. and lasted the majority of the morning.
Pellissier and Datuashvili began their training for the marathon in the middle of May. During their peak training sessions near the time of the marathon, the two ran up to fifty-five miles in a week.
“It really brings a new view on my attitude towards running,” said Pellissier. “It’s normally viewed as a physical activity – but once your body wants to give up the mental part becomes so important.”
Clocking in at 3 hours and 34 minutes, Pellissier finished in 126th place overall, while Datuashvili, at 3 hours and 38 minutes, finished in 145th.
