The Perfect Remedy for Rainy Day Blues
As rain drops pitter and patter, people may begin to feel lazy, gloomy. Bollywood movies make rainy day blues disappear with over-the-top dance numbers and a plethora of romance. Here is a list of the top three Bollywood movies to watch in this gloomy weather.
Karan Johar’s most famous film, Khabi Khushi Kabhie Gham, is a tale of the separation of two brothers, as the older sibling decides to leave his upper-class family in his mid-20s to marry a lower-class girl. Years after his brother leaves, the younger character, played by Hrithik Roshan, sets out to find his elder brother and sister-in-law in an effort to reunite his family.
The famous pair, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, sizzle on screen once again. With a star-studded cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, and Kareena Kapoor, Khabi Khushi Kabhie Gham has moments of happiness with the classic Bollywood dance numbers, as well as highly emotional scenes of heart-break and reunion.
After watching this movie on a rainy day, one may feel inclined to take a walk in the rain and appreciate the small joys of life (and maybe even attempt to dance to Kareena’s dance moves).
Though Rohit, played by the “Greek God” of Bollywood, (obviously, Hrithik Roshan), grows up as a mentally-ill child repeating his years of middle-school, he uncovers the secret research of his father on aliens. Rohit accidentally sends signals to these aliens and meets “Jaadu” (possibly the cutest alien in the universe) when the alien ship accidentally leaves Jaadu on Earth.
As Rahul and Jaadu become best friends, the audience falls in love with the pair and remember their childhood as Rahul dances in the rain with his young friends. While romancing Preity Zinta, Rahul manages to save Jaadu from the police and allows Jaadu to travel back to his home.
This movie led to the making of two sequels, Krish and Krish 2.
Known as the all-time Bollywood romance, Dilwale Dhulaniya Le Jayenge is a story of two lovers seeking the approval of their family to marry each other.
Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol became the most romantic on-screen pair with this movie as their acting truly represented the hardships couples may face when in love. After many heart-wrenching scenes, the parents finally allow their daughter to marry her love. Featuring scenes in the mountains of Switzerland and the fields of India, this movie gives viewers a taste of the best type of romance.
Remember to be careful while dancing (or fangirling) in the rain after watching these movies!
